I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.  Psalm 104:33

The Ward Choraleers of Ward Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church was organized in April 1973, under the able and capable direction of Mr. Eugene Evans, Sr., with five members.  They were Mr. Williams Ayers, Jr., Mrs. Carolyn Hilliard, Mr. Wayne Hilliard, Ms. Shirley Jackson and Mrs. Brenda Massey.  This group met for the purpose of singing gospel music for personal enjoyment as well as to serve churches throughout the area.

The music and fellowship enjoyed by the pioneer Choraleers serves as motivation for others who joined and swelled the ranks of the group.  Within one month, more than ten persons joined and within one year, more than twenty-seven persons had joined the group.  We presently have forty-two members.

The Ward Choraleers became an official organization in the Church in June 1973, under the pastorate of the late Reverend Howard L. Camper.

The Ward Choraleers have traveled throughout the Washington Metropolitan area, Delaware, New York, North Carolina, Virginia, St. Louis, MO, and Arkansas, to spread the Word of God through song.  They have given their time and talent to render benefit programs for the Washington Metropolitan Police Boys and Girls Club.

The Ward Choraleers serve regularly at Ward Memorial A.M.E. Church at 8:00 am on the second Sunday and at 11:00 am on the fourth Sunday.  It is through the encouragement and prayers of our pastor, members, family and friends that we sing, pray and stay together in harmony with one another.

Our Director/Organist, Mr. Eugene Evans, Sr., has played in churches throughout the United States and has been featured in many concerts throughout Europe.  In France, he had his own radio broadcast, singing and playing for the Lord our God.  Mr. Evans has organized many choirs and groups in his travels and we at Ward are blessed to have his talents since 1973.

Because the Lord has richly blessed us by increasing our number and by keeping us together in peace, love and harmony we have been together for 30 years.  May we continue to grow in number and spiritually to minister to others through music.
